| The LCD interface has been further improved, so
that even displays with a resolution of up to 1024*768 pixels can
now be connected. Of course, the expansion boards family from NetDCU3
for additional serial interfaces or CAN interfaces can also be used
with the NetDCU4. In order to enable the use of external hardware
extensions, the NetDCU4 is the first to offer a connector giving access
to most of the system bus. This also makes it possible to incorporate
complex extensions with a greater address range. For this interface
we will supply a graphic card designed for use with multimedia applications.
This will enable external video sources to be fed in and displayed
in picture-in-picture mode. The range of applications for which NetDCU4
is suited is virtually unlimited. Equipped with Watchdog and other
monitoring functions, it can be used both in machines and measuring
instruments and also in information systems or cash registers. Windows CE. NET Users who already have experience in developing software for Windows will be familiar with the development environment. Because the development environment embedded Visual C++ is compatible with the Visual C++ familiar from the PC world, it is easy to get started. Now for the first time you can also develop software using Visual Studio, NET and Smart Device Extensions (SDE). This means that you can now develop programs written in C# or Visual Basic. NET. The real time kernel familiar from Windows CE 3.0 has been further improved. Taken together with the increased processing speed of the NetDCU4, even faster response times to external events can now be achieved. In addition to improvements in detail, Windows CE. NET also offers many new great functions. For example, the web browser is now compatible with IE 5.5 and also supports not only XML but also SOAP. The integrated RAS server makes it possible to access the device through a modem. Because it supports the Kerberos security protocol, it can easily be integrated into existing server structures. The new file viewers enable documents in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Adobe Acrobat formats to be displayed. Embedded Linux Like the NetDCU3, also the NetDCU4 board is available with Linux. The kernel used for this has been adapted to the hardware of the NetDCU4. In addition to the kernel and the drivers for accessing the hardware, the set also contains a complete graphical interface. This means that the NetDCU4 can immediately be used as a fully-functional Linux computer. Application software can be developed either on a Linux computer or under Windows using the CYGWIN Linux emulation. The development environment can easily be installed on both systems. |
