PicoCOM is a module based on ARM9 technology with a surface area of only 20cm² (40mm x 50mm) and integrated operating system. This compact module is suitable for hand-held products, industrial (-20°C to +85°C) and medical applications. It provides with USB (Memory Stick/ActiveSync), Ethernet (FTP/HTTP/Telnet Server) and Audio (VoIP/WAV/MP3).

The new PicoCOM family from F&S offers the user a small and inexpensive communication platform. An important design objective was to offer as many standardized interfaces as possible, completely supported by the integrated OS. This allows for fast and straightforward implementation of the required communication tasks without requiring any in-depth hardware knowledge. Integrating the module into the surrounding hardware should be equally uncomplicated.

Therefore the whole power-management (power supply, reset curcuitry) is provided on-board and the board is connected to the main application via a pluggable 80-pin connector. Only some signal driver components for the requested interfaces need to be provided. It's as simple as that. All modules of this family will have the same size (40mm x 50mm) and will be using the same connector, where the first half of the pins carries fix signals and the second half offers module-specific interfaces. Thus an upgrade to future modules of this series is possible anytime.

For a quick and easy start is available a starter-kit (PicoCOM1, baseboard, documentation and software). To develop with C++, C# or Basic under Windows Embedded CE 6.0, the Microsoft development software Visual Studio .NET is required (not included)
